Collecting Your Item
I have no objection if you wish to collect from me to save the cost of shipping and packaging just so long as it is clear that:
I won't be supplying a shipping carton/protective packaging for the item (this would be paid for in the shipping charge) I won't be driving miles and miles to meet you (I don't mind a local trip to a junction, landmark or other convenient stopping place). Commercial carriers are a convenient and effective shipping method (for everything except guitars these days, unfortunately). My packaging is second to none and I send items with the appropriate level of compensation insurance to cover the worst case scenario of damage or loss.
In other words, if you wish to collect:
please arrange that payment has been made and cleared before collection unless you are bringing cash. you do the bulk of the travelling (that's fair, you're not covering my fuel costs) please bring adequate protective packaging for the item in transit (my responsibility ends as soon as it's collected from me). However, just to prove I'm not unreasonable, you may like to know that I have delivered items to buyers on many occasions (I've lost count how many). On those occasions the Total Cost (item plus shipping charges OR item plus an agreed amount to cover the fuel for a round-trip) was received and cleared before delivery. This gave me confidence in the buyer and covered my fuel costs ...... well, usually
